Genre: Sci-fi, Action, Mystery, Movie

Andrez Bergen (reviewer from the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun) wrote:"The film rates as the most mesmerizing animation long-player since Miyazaki's Spirited Away five years ago.
Why the hell should you watch this? And why did I get myself to watch this? Because Christopher Nolan, writer and director of the famous action movie "Inception", cited this as one of the main influences of his film, and he personally stated that he thought this was more interesting to watch.

Released in 2006, directed by Satoshi Kon and based on a 1993 novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui, and the film was considered the Best Feature Length Theatrical Anime Award at the sixth annual Tokyo Anime Awards during the 2007 Tokyo International Anime Fair.

The Review
Plot(8.5/10)
The concept is the focus of this piece. It's got twists and turns, taking you to places never expected. This is just one of those animes in which you cannot tell what is going to happen (for the most part). It'll definitely be a good brain exercise for those who need it.

There is a little bit of drama involved. Within the overall plot there are sub plots of each of the character's personnel conflicts (mainly focusing on the detective and his journey to overcome himself), but the overall piece focuses on the mystery/sci-fi portion of the film. Which to some critiques may lessen the impact of the emotional portion of the film and the individual connections to each of the characters.

If anything the main criticism for this film is that the plot is too confusing. Although this is a general consensus I do understand how this maybe. If you have no idea what is going on in the beginning then don't worry everyone was or is in the same position. Some pausing and rewinding may be necessary to fully understand the somewhat complicated dialogue. Also the occasional technical psychological terms can throw the audience into deeper confusions. Movie goers and the audience are expected to know a little about REMS and the science of dreams, because it is never fully explained and is expected.

Music (9/10)
Music fits the plot and scenarios well. Sci-fi esk and some what ambient. Composed by Susumu Hirasawa, this movie's soundtrack is significant historically in that it is the first film to use a Vocaloid and "Lola" was used for various tracks

Animation/Screenplay (9.5/10)
The visuals are superb! Colorful distinctive, and creative, highly expected from Masashi Ando, a regular from Studio Ghibli. Every scene is jam packed with so much art and information that it really feels like it'll explode out of the screen. Takes a lot of imagination to have something like this. Definitely watch in 720p.

Last Remark...
You will puzzled, but do not give up! It definitely is a great production. It's not perfect nor I would say it is the best, for me it lacked something. Some kind of punch. But it definitely is a good watch if you have some time.

Final Ratings:
Story: 8.5 Thoughtful yet it isn't perfect at simplifying it to the greater mass
Animation: 9.5 Colorful vivid really embodies a dream.
Character: 8 Character design great. Connection to character lacked, probably because of the short amount of time.
Music: 9 Fits well with the piece. Techno and ambient
Overall: 8.5 Not a must watch, but definitely a should watch.

Personally I didn't have that much trouble with understanding it. But, hey people say inception was confusing too so.
idk
This is just based on internet threads, which I guess aren't the smartest people on this planet.
